Tutor Training Schedule

The goals of our training are to equip tutors with an understanding of how race and poverty impact many of our students, provides strategies for teaching the components of reading, gives insights into dealing with student challenges, and prepares our tutors to create lesson plans. We do not attempt to make tutors professional teachers, but we do give them the tools needed to begin tutoring. In addition, we provide monthly supplemental workshops. There is much to learn, and the rewards are many.

Our next tutor training will take place on September 19 and 26, 2026 (Saturdays). Training will be in our tutoring space at 20 Rensselaer Street. Each day is from 8:45am to 3:30pm.

  • Day one concentrates on how racism and poverty affect our students.

  • Day Two looks at brain development, ACEs, the 5 components of reading, writing, and lesson planning.

For more information, email info@wizardswardrobe.org or call 518-414-4978.

The next training will take place on October 12 and 23, 2026 (Monday and Friday).
